    Harsh war in the desert

It did seem to provide a good look and feel to what the military had to go through in a desert war. The characters seemed believable insofar as some people simply should not be in the jobs they somehow ended up in. We're drawn into the soldiers' frustrations.

  • Generation Kill

Generation Kill is a 7-part HBO miniseries chronicling the first month of the Iraq War, following Bravo Company, 1st Recon Battalion from Camp Mathilda in Kuwait up north to Baghdad. I LOVED the show. As a Marine, myself, this show was a hilarious yet thoughtful in-depth look into what my brothers went through in the opening hours of the Iraq War. The show is very well done, with all actors playing the roles of Marines, yet doing a great job at it. Rudy Reyes who actually served in B Company, 1st Recon plays himself on the show. The show is only 7 episodes long, however, it should be longer, like 10-15 episodes longer. After having read Evan Wright's book, "Generation Kill," which inspired the show, I think it should be a much longer show. i also read "One Bullet ...

  • Generation Kill

The Generation Kill series was about the experience of the march into Baghdad, not the morality or the reasons behind it, told from the point of view of the author and the guys in the HumVee. Evan Wright, a Rolling Stone journalist, did not glorify the Marines nor did he villify the enemy. He bravely lived through the chaos while finding the humanity in his fellow passengers. The trend to show the realities of war instead of romanticising it, my family was curious to see what a reporter from Rolling Stone would find. It was a surprisingly accurate account from what they remembered. Interestingly, the gentlemen portrayed in the series offered the same critique in the "extras" interview, to the point that Rudy Reyes portrayed himself in this series. Each of the Marines ...

  • Loved the book. Loved the DVDs. Recommended viewing!

I read the book many years ago and when I heard that it was being made into a series I was so excited! The series was great! I never saw it when it was on cable, I only saw it on DVD, so I have no idea how much info was provided before the start of each episode. The DVDs provide you with a map for each episode, showing the route the company travels, which I thought was helpful for someone like me, who is a visual learner and a map-obsessed person. The one bonus feature I started to watch (a group interview with some of the Marines after the release of the series), was interesting, but I can't really comment on the rest of the features. Like I said after reading the book, this isn't for the faint of heart or those who think war and reality are "romantic." This is as ...

  • If you like to laugh and enjoy military stuff, watch it!

Generation Kills would be the comparisson of Band of Brothers to Underworld versus Interview with the Vampire. Same subject but totally different in time and how to abord the aspect of the subject. Nothing can compare to the classic of Interview with the Vampire but someone was able to portray a new face to the vampires with Underworld, well it would be kind of the same for Band of Brothers compare to Generation Kill. It is funny, with strong language and based on a true stories. I watched it over and over and again and do not get tired of all the jokes, songs they sing like they have talents and reactions you see through these 3 DVD's. If you like to laugh, have a good time and enjoy military stuff, then this is DEFINITELY a must to have in you collection. Enjoy every ...
