Works well but hard to use menues
I bought this to copy Hi8 video to DVD. It works well and offers better quality than any of the USB plug-in units. The menus show the machines age. 30+ tiny buttons on the controller and impossible menus. Nevertheless, if you've got VHS or Hi8 to copy to your laptop, this is your best bet.

Very Poor tuner
The product is in good condition and i don't have any problems with it's use as i downloaded the user manual online. The problem is that the signal strength and quality is very poor which gives very poor quality in terms of distortions to picture and sound. I have very good reception in my area with a very good out door Ariel. All other devices including my freeview panasonic tv and another freeview set top box get very good signal and strength quality so the problem can only be from the device. When i scan my tv for new channels it gives me the choice of regional or all regions best quality (recommended) which is the option i choose. However when i scan with this device it only gives the one option London transmitter ( i think this is where the problem lies, hence my conclusion the tuner ... time came when I needed a dvd player so why buy a player that can't record? why buy a disc recorder and not a hard drive recorder? Why not buy both? record whenever and as much as you want and transfer to disc if you want to, much easier to manage, no looking for discs in a hurry, easy to time record freeview or set for sky,~~(freeview enabled}. Samsung ticked all my boxes including price. However, if I am a little too quick with the remote buttons it is prone to freeze leaving power off as the only escape. BUT!!! Just what I needed!
I already had one of these Samsung dvd recorders, but it sometimes did not record! This one does, and my remote control works on it. A good price for a limited market.
