Reviews
Hollywood Reporter - enjoyable to watch, partly because it is so beautifully shot by cinematographer Adam Suschitzky, who takes advantage of the rich settings [...] Pattinson captures the initial shyness and growing flamboyance of Dali, and Beltran makes a handsome foil, Little White Lies - the pivotal homosexual love affair is beautifully and sensitively handled, resulting in an intense character piece throbbing with innovation and sexual repression., Daily Express - It does boast a lavish recreation of the period, fabulous costumes, the rugged beauty of some prime European locations and enough torrid emotions to make for a captivating period piece., Total Film - a lush, involving period drama that proves there are other strings to Pattinson's bow.
Consumer Advice
Contains strong language and a strong sex scene
Additional Information
For years, scholars have debated the nature of the relationship between surrealist painter Salvador Dali and poet Federico Garcia Lorca; director Paul Morrison's LITTLE ASHES delves into their personal interaction and their acquaintanceship with Spanish surrealist filmmaker Luis Bunuel, with whom Dali made L'AGE D'OR and UN CHIEN ANDALOU. In 1922 Madrid, bohemian lifestyles are flourishing -- from the arrival of jazz music to the 'en vogue' teachings of Sigmund Freud. As the tale opens, Salvador Dali (Robert Pattinson) is only 18, but his dreams of artistic glory lie poised in front of him; his personality and social attitudes soon draw the attention of two from the in-crowd -- Lorca (Javier Beltran) and Bunuel (Matthew McNulty). For a temporary period, the three become the most 'in' clique in all of Spain and find themselves virtually defining the currents of modernism; however, Bunuel then leaves for Paris, and Salvador and Federico are thrust together even closer than before -- so close that one night, their relations suddenly cross the line from platonic friendship to something far more intimate.

  • movie to see for RPatz's fans and Dali's fans

very interesting movie. it was a pity that there aren't subtitle even in english so for foreigners a little bit difficult to understand. But R. Pattison is incredible as Dali!

  • my little ashes review

Okay, I admit i brought this dvd as i notice robert pattinson was staring in it, i was curious to see him play another sort of character other than edward. This story is very powerful and electric, you can sense the attraction from the characters from the moment they meet. The cast are all fantastic, in this sometimes quite hard to follow story, each of the characters performs there role so beautifully that it's hard not to enjoy this film. I do think it's one of those types of films that needs to be watched more than once to fully understand everything, and to discover all the hidden depths of this film. Definitely a dvd to buy and keep for a long time. enjoy beks
