There are some gruesomely imaginative deaths
The master of horror returns to the kind of filmmaking he pioneered and the genre he invented. In his first independent zombie film in over twenty years, George A. Jason Creed and a small crew of college filmmakers are in the Pennsylvania woods making a no-budget horror film when they hear the terrifying news that the dead have started returning to life. Zombies have more fun
I suppose my 'excellent' rating is recognition of the subjectivity of our own judgements. I love zombie and vampire films you see, and so this was always going to be a winner. What is it about? Essentially it is about how a group of North American college kids accompanied by their professor try to negotiate a world subject to the threat of zombies and people freed from the perceived restraints of law and order. Abandoning a college film project they band together in a mobile home and try to get to their respective homes (though some are just along fopr the ride. Without destroying the suspense most of them don't make it :) However, like any story it has undetones. In this case, there are several themes. One is the pressure imposed by romantic relationships on the individuals to compromise or to conform to the wishes of another. A budding film director chooses to film what is happening, and his girlfriend spends much of the time trying to stop him. In the process she uses threats, ridicule and jealousy (getting close to one of the other male characters in the process). Another theme relates to truth. As we are learning with things like 'spin' and embedded journalism, truth is in the eye of the controller. As we might expect the media tries to convince its audience that what is happening is sporadic and under control. The budding director likes to see his role as a source of truth, presenting events in all their terrible rawness. He uploads his images on the internet (while it remains in operation) to counter the official line. However, whether he is seriously trying to challenge fabricated reporting or pursue his own personal glory is open to dispute. Later in the film you see a short clip of his video diary which suggested to me more of the latter. The most explict theme though is the shape of human nature. As with all films of this type it has a survivalist thread. What would people do to survive? It doesn't provide a simplistic answer to this and is clever in this respect. It recognises the complex nature of circumstances and human motivations. The film ends with the question: are we worth saving? This seems to me a challenge that goes beyond the zombie film. Consequently, for me, it was both entertaining and thought-provoking. The best of all possible zombie-free worlds :)

WORST FILM I HAVE EVER SEEN
I hate wasting my time writing reviews but i have especially put myself out to warn everyone to never ever ever watch this film. It is truly awful, awful is an understatement, it has to be the worst film i have ever seen in my life. The acting and dialogue is beyond horrific, it provides the only cringe worthy moments in the film and it had me running full speed to my DVD player with a sledge hammer to end the pain it was putting me through. Its that bad that i reckon if someone gave me the option of having to watch this film twice in a row or have my eyes poked out i would poke my eyes out myself. I've never hated a film so much, i would rather watch a Steven Segal marathon (its that bad) then a 10 minute clip of this film. You know in films when you want the characters to survive? not in ... I'm not going to talk about him too much because even thinking about him writing this review is more effort and thought then he is worth. If you haven’t seen it (please don't) and decide too, listen out for the 'What just happened?' line that is repeated after every single little significant and insignificant thing that happens, like dust on a windscreen, or maybe a leaf falling. Or maybe you want to hear a commentary of how a van reverses? i know I’ve always wondered how they do that and now i know thanks to this life saving film. I forgot to mention, the character of the Professor, wow...., what a treat of a character, so original, straight from the mould of Giles from Buffy but with added idiocy, alcoholism and i forgot to mention his extensive knowledge of guns (he’s a media teacher for Christ sake). I have never hated a character as much as him. If Romero wanted to make a realistic film with the 'great' idea of using a hand held camera he has completely destroyed it with the god awful acting, events, characters, plot... wait, absolutely everything. How can a real life video have suspense music? or a narrator you want to choke on her own tongue. Anyway enough time wasted, don’t see this film you will thank me for saving two hours of your life and being able to do something fulfilling like petting a rabbit. One last thing, can't believe it but they wasted 2million dollars on making this film! 2million! i'm pretty sure putting that money towards people that now have hernia after cringing too much seeing this film would benefit society more, or maybe giving it to me so i can burn it would be money better spent.

Not good...........
I am a mad fanatic of all things zombie, I read the books and watch the dvd's, there are always a few 'bad eggs' in the bunch, but seeing this dvd, as its by the infamous romero I thought it had to be a sure fire winner, as I am a huge fan of his previous works, but this film........ where do I start, it was a joke! the zombies are 1960's calibur, there is no story line and you actually cheer when the charaters get killed off! unfortunatly not all of them do get bitten on the bum! the acting is very wooden, with a useless bunch of actors with the leading lady looking half asleep throught out this tosh! in fact my cat could do a better job! there also isnt that much gore, need I go on? its such a shame! I wouldnt reccomend buying this unless your going to watch it very, very drunk! your ... Blair Witch style handycam movie, enjoyed the gore but didnt live up to the trailor. If your a zombie fan then watch it you will enjoy it but not get blown away.
