Colourful nostalgia from the Sixties
It may only be a 'childrens programme', but the characters and plots are probably just as credible as they in other forms of sci fi, and well written. Being shorter than episodes of Thunderbirds, it is more concise and does't flag. It was well produced, particularly in view of the fact that it was the first series produced by the Andersons that was made in colour.

These were the words spoken by Commander Shore at the beginning of each episode of Stingray. Set in the year 2064, Stingray is about the World Aquanaut Security Patrol (WASP) who patrol the world's oceans, helping and defeating underwater races. The pride of WASP is the revolutionary submarine Stingray, which is controlled by Captain Troy Tempest and Lieutenant George Lee Sheridan, better known as 'Phones'. The WASP headquarters at Marineville, a huge complex, 10 miles inland. The heart of WASP operations is the control tower, where Commander Sam Shore, Lt. Rescue from the Skies -Troy must be lowered onto Stingray from the air after Agent X-2-Zero plants a bomb on the craft's hull while a lieutenant uses it for target practice. The Cool Cavemen - While asleep, Troy dreams of a meeting between him and a group of undersea cavemen who have looted the cargo of a vessel ferrying radioactive material. A Nut for Marineville - An eccentric professor is brought in to develop a super missile which is Marineville's only hope of destroying an indestructible undersea craft. Trapped in the Depths - An insane professor kidnaps Atlanta and steals Stingray with the intention of destroying Marineville. Eastern Eclipse - The de-throned Ali Khali, brother of evil dictator El Hudat (who is in Marineville Jail) visits Marineville. Meanwhile, Surface Agent X20 helps El Hudat to escape from his imprisonment by swapping Ali Khali, who has an exact likeness, in his place. Commander Shore discovers the switch so the Stingray crew and Ali Khali give chase. A Christmas To Remember - While Troy decides to help the orphaned son of a dead WASP aquanaut at Christmas, Phones is captured by an enemy warrior and forced to lay a trap for his comrade. The Lighthouse Dwellers - Troy and Phones investigate after a signal from a disused lighthouse confuses a pilot and causes him to crash his aircraft. Aquanaut Of The Year - After receiving the ‘Aquanaut of the Year' award, Troy finds himself part of a ‘This is Your Life' programme where he reminisces on some of his greatest adventures. Well Worth watching.
