MILLS IS GOOD AS QUATERMASS, A BROKEN MAN , WHOM SENSE OF ORDER HAS DISAPPEARED AS WELL ALONG WITH THE SOCIETY AROUND HIM, AND SEEKING ANSWERS (THE WHEREABOUTS OF HIS GRAND DAUGHTER, THE ORIGIN OF THE ALIEN FORCE!). AT THE TIME OF ITS RELEASE 1979 ,QUATERMASS WAS ALREADY CONSIDERED OLD FASHIONED, AND NIGEL KNEALES SPIN ON THE FUTURE OLD HAT(THIS FOLLOWED STAR WARS, ALIEN, CLOSE ENCOUNTERS )REDEFINING WHAT THE PUBLIC WANTED TO SEE, YET AFTER REWATCHING THE SERIES AGAIN, IT WAS FUN WATCHING THE PAST-LOOKING TOWARDS THE FUTURE. ALTHOUGH KNEALE DID GET SOMETHING VERY RIGHT WAS AGRICULTURAL FAILURE, OIL PRICES SKYROCKETING, GOVERNMENTS WASTING BILLIONS ON SPACE MISSIONS,WHILE FAMINE ON EARTH, AND SEX PUMPED THRU TV AT ALL HOURS.

Quatermass DVD - the one you have to watch
I watched this a a child, and was frightened silly - even hiding behind the sofa at one point. Needless to say when my family wanted to visit Stonehenge later that year, i didn't want to go. Such is the depth of convincing fiction, and for that reason alone, i would recommend this to anyone interested, as compelling viewing. Sir John Mills portrays an excellent Quatermass, who once again, bails out the planet with sheer British Brilliance!!
