Superb gutsy album from before he converted to doing seemingly endless worthy but dull blues collections. Travers was phenominally dynamic this early in his career - and as for blues covers listen to the blistering 'Statesboro Blues' on this album, then compare it to the subsequent ham-fisted version on one of the endless blues cover albums he's done - or pretty much any of the songs on them. However, to make real Travers magic search e-bay for the cd's 'Heat in the Street' or 'Crash and Burn' or the vinyl lp's 'Radioactive' or 'Black Pearl' ( no cd releases yet alas ) for superb and masterful rock'n'roll with depth and some pop sensibilities. But whatever you do, get a copy 'Makin Magic' and enjoy ......
Am not familiar with this artist but I feel this cannot be his very best work! I only really like one track and bought it for that: " what you mean to me". Joe Elliott played it the other week on his Planet Rock radio show which persuaded me to explore the other tracks but they're not nearly as good. Sorry, Mr Travers :(
