About this product

Product Information

Director Ridley Scott's hauntingly prescient vision of the not-too-distant future stars Harrison Ford as Rick Deckard, a retired police assassin, or blade runner. The Los Angeles of 2019 is a dark, polluted, overcrowded dystopia dominated by cloud-piercing buildings and looming neon billboards, the air dense with acid rain and flying traffic. World-weary Deckard has been called out of retirement to liquidate four escaped replicants--genetically derived androids of great strength, intelligence, and nearly-human emotion who serve as slaves and prostitutes in the off-planet colonies. Led by Roy Batty (Rutger Hauer), they've come to Los Angeles to confront their designer, Eldon Tyrell (Joe Turkel), with their unhappiness about the brevity of their four-year life span. In the course of his search, Deckard becomes romantically entwined with Tyrell's lovely assistant, Rachael (Sean Young), and must eventually confront Batty in an unforgettable rain-soaked sequence.<BR>A highly influential fusion of the science fiction and noir genres based on the novel DO ANDROIDS DREAM OF ELECTRIC SHEEP

Small differences between this and the 1982 U.S. theatrical version

I originally saw Blade Runner in 1983 in London on a big screen and subsequently bought the VHS tape in the 1980s. It is a film that I have watched many times and rate very highly. The music is amazing. This DVD is however the Final Cut compiled in 2007 and it contains some (three?) new scenes but the main difference is that it doesn't contain Deckerd's voiceovers and it has the so-called 'happy ending' in which Deckerd and Rachel appear to fly away to safety at the end. I personally miss the voiceovers and the happy ending. I have read somewhere that Joanna Cassidy's face was mapped onto the stunt woman's body in the scene where Deckerd shoots Zhora (Cassidy) in the back and she runs and falls through several windows in the mall where that bit of action happens. In my view, one of the ...

Have seen the film years ago..thought provoking and intelligent. Good copy

  • Ridley Scott is a genius.

This never seems to be shown on TV anymore, probably because he shoots what looks like a woman in the back and she falls through shop windows. I hadn't seen this film for 20 years, and while I enjoyed it on release, it was wasted on me. I see it for the masterpiece it is now.
