Very nearly as sharp as the 70-200 2.8 IS II without the extender, though just a tough soft wide open at infinity. Doubles the focal length but does not affect the lens' minimum focus distance, so even useful for some light macro work. Fast enough focusing to catch birds in flight. Quick and easy to attach and detach. It does throw the weight a bit to the rear when rig is mounted on tripod with lens collar, so lock it in tight or upgrade your head. Not really suitable for freehand shooting. Do keep in mind that doubling your focal length requires a faster shot to avoid motion blur. Bottom line: it beats shelling out for a longer L lens.

For $35 more than a used one do yourself the favor and just get a brand new one. It's not a USA model i.e. It doesn't come wth the canon warranty card, but any real photographer should have their own insurance on their gear. From what I can see (using a 70-200 2.8 IS II) the image is still tack sharp and the AF is still fast and reliable. Instead of buying the the 100-400 this is a much better option. Another huge plus is that I can keep it in my bag incase I need more reach where if I had another separate long lens I'd never take it with me and risk losing a shot.

Great lens adaptor. Adds another dimension to your lens toolbox. Our only gripe is that while the Canon 100-400 zoom lens is listed as compatible electrically; it is not. That one has to be used manually. If you are on a budget, and can't afford both a 1.4 and the 2.0; get the 1.4 first. It is more adaptable in most situations.

Excellent for portability, price while maintaining quality of the images. I did not experience any slower AF and over all the Auto Focus when paired with Canon 70-200 f/2.8 IS USM II is super fast. In addition I get max aperture of 64 with my lense.

We are currently on a road trip and am using the extender for the first time. I'm using it with my 100-400 Canon lens. So far I'm really happy with the result. Got some fantastic, close up bear photos. The only negative so far is that it sometimes takes a while to focus. I was hesitant to buy it as reviews were mixed. I'm glad I bought it and so far has been great for wildlife photos.
