About this product

Product Information

In this prequel to Namco's 2002 urban third-person shooter, player's resume the role of the versatile anti-hero Jack Slate, who is rejoined by his faithful canine companion Shadow. Dead to Rights II is designed to accent the features fans enjoyed in the original, including the fast melee, dangerous gunfights, and -- more than anything else -- the chance to conquer challenges a number of different ways by selecting wisely from the hero's wide assortment of special moves and shooting skills. Slate can now attack enemies in all directions, even those standing behind him, and the revamped slow-motion "bullet-time" mode offers greater control and more cinematic sequences.

  • We've come a loooong way

I bought Dead to Rights 2 because I had lingering nostalgia for the first game. This game was holding onto what was cool several years before it came out: The Matrix, Max Payne- all that bullet time stuff. Bullet time is still a nice mechanic, and you still see it in games here and there. What I'm no longer into is that one-liner supercop type of hero that the protagonist, Jack, is. He's a post Duke Nukem kinda chatterer, with a voice that sounds a lot like Steve Blum (don't know for sure if it's his voice). The story and "funny" dialogue are not what you would enjoy while playing this game. Other than bullet time, I think you'll enjoy Shadow being able to take down villains when you're in a compromised position. What you wont like is that the enemies can be overwhelming at times, auto targeting may freak out and be more help than harm, and the save points are definitely not enough per level. I liked the trip back to old action gaming, but I really appreciate game design of the current decade.
