    I believed the hype.

    After reading to glowing tributes to this series I thought that I was buying a high quality television series. On the strength of the first two episodes I realise that Anglia Television was years ahead of the BBC in producing often inaudible mumbled dialogue and extremely intrusive incidental sounds- hobnailed boots on wooden floors in the forensic lab, for example. The picture quality is disappointing even allowing for the age of the production and with one or two exceptions the acting is unconvincing. I am hoping, against the odds it must be admitted, that it will improve as I get further into it but I shall not hold my breath.

    Brilliant and very watchable

    This brilliant series is still totally watchable. A must buy if you like old detective series. They don't make them like this anymore. The slower pace makes for a very enthralling watch.

    Still worth a watch

    a very much slower pace than today's detective series, but the stories and acting are still worth watching. It is nice to be able to watch as a family without embarrassment of lots of swearing, sex scenes and gore!
