    Thoroughly absorbing

    Although filmed a while ago, its excellent acting and directing endures. There are surprise pop up stars like Liz Taylor, James Stewart, Robert Mitcham. I have found this series thoroughly absorbing and enjoyable and in addition its historical setting is informative about a very turbulant time in American history which had a profound effect on Europe too.

    Well worth a watch - history and drama fans will both enjoy.

    Interesting series depicting the North and South of America before, during and after the Civil War, where the South wanted to continue slavery and the North wanted it to end. The series focuses on two friends who train at West Point together and their families. One is from the North, the other from the South. Lots of twists and turns to the plot, and kept me engaged throughout. Attention is also paid to the black characters and how their lives change through the war and Abraham Lincoln's reforms.

    Great series

    This is one of my favorite series since I was a child and I was happy to find it in a complete version on DVDs. All DVDs have subtitles in more languages, which is good for people who are not natives speakers of English. This is a great epic story about the American civil war in the 19th century and about friendship and love above all.

    Good title. A pity a British company is using the same title which could be confusing if you didn't know exactly what to look for

    I first watched this programme on TV in the early 1980's and loved it. Having forgotten exactly what happened after 40 years, it didn't disappoint second time around.
