Film, as well as video, often exhibits a greater sensitivity to what is to us invisible, ultraviolet light. This is most often outdoors, especially at high altitudes, where the UV-absorbing atmosphere is thinner; and over long distances, such as marine scenes. It can show up as a bluish color cast with color film, or it can cause a low-contrast haze that diminishes details, especially when viewing far-away objects, in either color or black-and-white. Ultraviolet filters absorb UV light generally without affecting light in the visible region. It is important to distinguish between UV-generated haze and that of air-borne particles, such as smog. The latter is made up of opaque matter that absorbs visible light as well as UV, and will not be appreciably removed by a UV filter.The UV Protector shields lens from dust, moisture, scratches, and breakage.

    Tiffen Photographic Filtres: The time tested choice of professionals.

    Professional photographers & cinematographers have relied on Tiffen filters for almost 3/4 of a century (They even received an Academy Award in 1999!). Slipping an affordable and optically correct Tiffen UV filter on your camera's lens not only reduces the effects of Ultraviolet rays on your photos (purplish cast) but protects your lens from abrasive dust and other environmental hazards that can ruin expensive optics. In the worst case, buying another filtre is far more economical than replacing a lens. I have depended on Tiffen filters for at least fifty years and trust me, not only have they improved my photography, but they have saved me much grief while working in the field. There are cheaper filtres available, but I see no reason to risk my photos or lenses for a few dollars ...

    Good quality UV filter in an inexpensive package.

    Tiffen lens filter has good clear optics and light weight. It does good UV protection as well as prevent lens from accidental damage in an inexpensive package.

    Same quality as B+W for half the price!

    I use the Tiffen brand UV protectors on all my lenses now. They create no color fringing, no vignetting, no flaring or any changes in optics what so ever! The best part, it is cheaper than the main stream B+W brand.

    Good filter, good price.

    Tiffen makes excellent products and I have use3d them in the past. When I got another old camera the first thing I wanted was a good UV filter to protect the lens. This fits the bill perfectly.

    Great Filter

    Very clean optics and well made filter. I would opt for the Multi-Coated options but for general lens protection and haze control, this does perfect for the job. I always buy Tiffen made.
