A standalone expansion for XCOM: Enemy Unknown, Enemy Within retains all of the core features of the original title while doubling the game's maps and adding the rival EXALT faction. EXALT is a mysterious paramilitary secret society whose operatives want to master the genetic enhancements and superior technology of the invading aliens, and then use these new powers to rule once the aliens leave the planet. This ideology puts them in direct conflict with XCOM, so EXALT sends hidden cells around the globe to sabotage the funding and research of XCOM, and sow panic among citizens.<br><br>Players can use Intel Scans to locate cells of the new antagonists, dispatch a covert agent to infiltrate each group, and then choose to send in combat support in the form of two new mission types. Covert Data Recovery missions find gamers protecting a single important asset from EXALT operatives, while Covert Extraction missions involving hacking two enemy communications arrays before leaving the map. There are 47 new maps in all, and players can also take advantage of the new MEC Trooper class, new cybernetic augmentations, new weapons and equipment, and a new alien resource known as MELD.<br><br>The basics of gameplay in Enemy Within remain similar to that of its predecessor, with players once again planning combat missions, controlling soldiers in turn-based battles, researching and reverse-engineering alien technology, and creating and upgrading the XCOM base. EXALT foes come in four different soldier classes, all of which can be upgraded to Elite status and used in multiplayer action. This Commander Edition also includes Enemy Unknown's Slingshot, Elite Soldier, and Second Wave content packs.

    XCOM is Out of this World!

    I've been playing computer and video games for going on 35 years now. My all-time favorite was the original computer game System Shock. Truly a groundbreaker in many ways. XCOM: Enemy Within is definitely in my TOP 5! The game IMHO has everything going for it. Superb storyline, perfect plot pacing, absorbing gameplay mechanics, great graphics and animations, and a balanced strategic turn-based system combine to make this games very special o all levels!

    You can't lose with this one.

    Easy to play, hard to master. Xcom gives you tactical flexibility and exciting missions that leave you on the edge of your seat. The turn based system let's you play at a casual pace and the AI still gives you a challenge. One of my favorite games of all time!
