    Compact, convenient and informative

    This winter I added heated pants to my jacket liner and gloves which made having a dual controller for the whole set up necessary. Fortunately, FirstGear and Gerbing use the same size electrical connectors (5.5mm x 2.5mm) so using a Gerbing controller with FirstGear jacket doesn't present a problem. Having an illuminated display for the heat settings for the pants and for the jacket is a nice convenience and the compact size of the controller makes placement (in the jacket pocket) easy. But maybe one of the best features of the Gerbing dual controller is that for another $25 you can buy the optional Gerbing Bluetooth remote unit that can be "Velroed" to a convenient part of your vehicle so fishing the controller out of your pocket to change heat setting while you're underway is not ...

    Compared to the original controller with...

    Compared to the original controller with the knob(s), this has its pros and cons. Pro…once you know what setting works for a particular temperature range, you can pretty much set it and forget it before you even start rolling. If temperatures drop, a press, or two, of one, or both, of the buttons and all’s well. If the temperature goes up, however… Con…you have to cycle through all the settings until you come back to the desired (lower) setting. This might be a nuisance with winter gloves. Is that a deal breaker? Not for me, but it IS an inconvenience compared to the old style. That said, because the wire setup is different for each, I’d say get the one that installs the way you prefer and don’t worry about it. They both work great. Now, go for a ride, already!!
