Forget 'Love, Actually' this is the ORIGINAL Christmas feel good movie by the great writer/director Richard Curtis ('Four Weddings & a Funeral', 'Notting Hill', 'Bridget Jones Diary', 'Mr. Bean', 'Blackadder' and of course 'Love, Actually') Bernard & The Genie is quite possibly one of his finest pieces of writing – despite being his first film the story delivers on every level. Commissioned by the BBC in the early 1990's to be placed in the Christmas Programming it's STILL, 25 years on, better than ever, full of emotion, warmth, pathos and of course trademark Curtis laughs. It has been released in Region 1 (USA) and Region 4 (Australia) but strangely never released in Region 2 (UK). However all is not lost as both play in the UK so looks like it hasn't been region coded which is a huge bonus. Apparently it is to be released as part of a double DVD set for Christmas so hopefully it will still be viewable in the UK and should come down in price. I only gave it 4 out of 5 because unfortuantley it hasn't been digitally remastered so the quality is not perfect but still def worth adding to your collectionRead full review
