I have only listened to it once, so I'm not familiar with the songs yet to know if I like it or not. The great thing about e bay purchases, the CDs are so affordable you can take a chance on a CD you otherwise might not buy.

Darkness On The Edge Of Town is one of my fave Bruce albums so I bought this 2 disc set with high expectations. After 2 listens all I can say about the Promise is that it is an ok release. There's a reason these songs weren't included on Darkness. For my taste there are too many slow songs and not near enough rockers.

If you are a fan of The Boss, this is the great lost Springsteen album you've always hoped existed. These tracks are studio outtakes during the Darkness At the Edge of Town period. These tracks probably would have been released as the official Springsteen album between Born to Run and Darkness. Due to contractual snags (don't you just love the corporate contributions to the recording arts?), Springsteen and gang apparently camped out in the studio for some length of time recording song after song after song. Similar to the 4 CD Tracks compilation, The Promise shows that the Boss was not only as prolific as he is proficient but almost always interesting. Check it out if you are a Springsteen fan (and, if you are not, go back to playing with your Justin Bieber doll). Springsteen Rules!Read full review
This is an under rated CD. Great tunes from Bruce. Any Bruce fan would love it.

I love everything about it, it is a Bruce Springsteen that went unknown for so long that was just destined to be released. The music, the lyrics, the continuity of the tracks are second to none and make The Promise one Bruce Springsteen's best releases over his long and distiguished career.
