Hi, I've had a lot of pedals , this turbo rat I bought / found out by the dated volume ect. pots to be a 94' which has the lm308 chip , great distortion sounds in this box , I get some good bluesy stuff/ to heavy blues sounds out of it too . Sweet pedal .wish I could beat the high price of this again & pick up another , I got mine for 47.00 5/2012 ..a steal ..I use a maxon od-9 for my overdrive . It all works , I've read that the rat pedals had the 1st true bypass switches on them, out of all the pedals ,I guess the 78's the 1st rats they made . anyway this is a great pedal , I'd like to hear some more vintage rats , but there 2-300 for one , so I'm good w/. this . I do run it thru tube amps , so it sounds great , They do take a reversed polarity walwart , not the boss type ..So don;t blow one up ! good luck , Oh, see the youtube vids ..they have shoot outs , of the turbo rast , the white face , the big box , & the newer re-issue . check it ,, you can find a nice sound w/ this pedal , not sure about the newer ones .. just thought I'd add .Read full review
This pedal is something to get used to. I haven't had a distortion pedal like this with a tube amp before, so I didn't know what to expect. When I first plugged this in, the sound was super muddy on the higher distortion settings and the signal would cut out, but in order to get the distortion everyone raves about with this pedal, it's all about a healthy level of overdrive on the amp. Turn the gain up on the amp and this thing will be vicious. I love this pedal now that I know how to work it. Very versatile and you can get a lots of sounds and eras out of it. A biting, high distortion or a low growl. You can even do sludgy distortion too if that floats your boat. Honestly, with this, you'd be set for everything you'd want. This pedal also throws in a little subtle tinge of character to the sound that I can't put my finger on. It also adds a world of greatness to sustain and to your solos. All around awesome unit.Read full review
The Turbo RAT is IMHO the BEST distortion (used by the likes of Radiohead & Sonic Youth for reference), you just can't go wrong with it, you'll have a hard time taming this beast, but once you get to know it you will not regret it. Rock on! On the Cry Baby, what can be said about this legendary effect? Hendrix used it. PERIOD.

This is a well made distortion pedal. Nice construction. The knobs work well, the filter doesn't give a very large range but is ok, no complains. The distortion itself is not very nice, this is not a pedal to use alone, is to add a color or add gain to the amp's distortion. If you buy this thinking that is going to make your 15 Watts amp sound great, don't buy it, is for people who already got a nice amp and need a little color, add a little gain for a solo, or whatever. I use it a little less than 50% of Distortion and is fine for me (I play Rock music), you can go from Blues to Death Metal.
There are four different levels, but I've only begun to experience just the classic distortion. You really can't go wrong with this distortion piece. It is truly one of a kind. I'm not trying to sugar coat anything. If you are looking for an ideal distortion look no more, because this thing is massive and it won't let you go another day without it. It's got the vibration, power, and pump you've been looking for. I'm positive this pedal will work with just about any setup. I really don't think there is anything out there that can compare as of yet. Enjoy if you dare.
