I purchased a 6-SW R7 set with stock Taylormade graphite shafts. I have to agree with everyone else who made the claims that these irons have a very large sweet spot. They definitly have forgiveness that you would not expect just by looking at them. I have had numerous off center hits that went straight, high, and reasonably far considering where I struck the ball. It was hard to adjust to the graphite. It is very light, but in a way it takes away from the feel of the club. I am starting to adjust to this but I was previously playing large cavity back game improvment irons, and I had much more feel for the head weight throughout my swing with those. I dont really try and "work" the ball, but I have noticed that these due tend to draw or fade nicely if done right. I did notice the cavity backs on the particular R7's I purchased had some dents and paint wear. They do seem easy to dent if you dont take care of them. The previous owner did not take care of them very well. I put iron covers on em. Ill treat them well. Ebay is the best place to grabe these because you can get them relatively cheap. Compared to the price of the new products TM puts out, save some money and grab gear from a couple of years ago. You wont be dissapointed. You should have to spend over $200 for a set of stock steel shafted r7 iron sets. I have seen them go for $150 in excellent condition.Read full review
These Taylormade R7 Irons are a great set. I am currently set up with the 3-pw, and although I'm not used to having the long 3&4 irons, I am learning to hit them well. The clubs have a large sweetspot and give great feedback. A hard swing is not necessary with these clubs. The ball comes flying off the face so hot it makes it easy to have consistent strokes and has helped me to shave strokes off my score. If your on the fence about these irons I def recommend them, either as a first set, or as an upgrade. Great set of irons.
Handicap: 23 Courses played: Public Experience: 2 seasons (dang New England winters!) Feel: Some people have said that they do not have great feel with these clubs. I guess that is a matter of opinion. I think these clubs do allow a good bit of feel for a set of game-improvement irons. When you hit the ball just right, you know it. If you hit the ball completely off, you'll know it too. Of course, if you hit the ball just a bit off center you'll probably not know it because the sweet spot on the clubs is large... and that's not a bad thing! Performance: These are some really sweet swinging clubs. Ball absolutely launches when hit. I feel like these clubs are juiced compared to my previous no-name brand set. I mean, really, these balls fly! If you are upgrading to the R7s you will likely see an immediate difference in your ball launch. The first time I picked up my 7 iron and took a swing I was amazed by the height I got on it. I've also found myself hitting the ball straighter and more consistent than in the past. I'd like to think that I have improved my game but some credit should be given to the clubs. With my old set, I feared my 4 iron. Now I can hit it and hit it well - it's a great feeling to know that I can hit my longer irons consistently. By the way, these clubs hit LONG! I've gained an average of 5 yards on each club. Look: I am a big fan of the look of the club heads. Clean look at address. I feel confident picking up any club in the set and taking a swing. I like the graphics on the cavity as well, not too busy, not too boring. I demo'd the Cleveland CG7s and the top line of the club was thicker (clunkier) than the R7s and you could see the CG7 bright yellow graphics of some of the irons at address - distracting, if you ask me. No such problem with the R7s, clean look, confidence inspiring. If I have one complaint about the look of the overall club, it's in the shaft. The graphite shafts are two-toned which seems almost toy-ish to me. I have demo'd the steel shafts, they look clean and hit very well but I got a great deal on the graphite shafts so I couldn't say no. After one round with the R7s I could care less what the shafts looked like. Overall the clubs have a very clean look to them and inspire confidence at address. More confidence = better golf. Summary: Overall, you'd be hard pressed to find a better set of game-improvement irons at the price they are currently being offered at on eBay. Make sure you purchase from a reputable seller (Taylormade irons have quite a few copycats out there) and you'll be happy as a clam. Long, straight and high launching, these clubs are great for high to mid-handicappers (I dare not suggest clubs to low handicappers as I am a low to mid-90s hack). I've dropped an average of 5 strokes with these clubs, am no longer fearful of the long iron shots, and am enjoying the game of golf more than I ever imagined. Enjoy.Read full review
A nice, forgiving, soft feeling set of irons. The set I found was missing a 6 so I bought one online. Great for mid to high handicappers.

Great clubs. Weight and flex are very easy to play with and the ball leaves the face of the club quickly. I can literally feel the ball take off, unlike my old set of Ram irons (klunk). I've have improved my game with these clubs. Takes a bit more effort when cleaning them; the space between the back of the face and the inverted cone weight can pick up a little grass and dirt if you're playing in wet conditions. Others have commented on how the bottom of the clubs scratch easily; I have not had a problem with that issue. They don't scratch any more than you'd expect for such a shiny finish. I think they look good, play well and clean up nicely. Only trouble I had was finding an r7 hat; most are r9s. Finally found one at Walmart--LOL.
