It's real, proper carbon steel. The blade is sharpened to near shave ready as delivered. It is shaped as a full hollow ground and is about a 5/8 to 6/8, so a very decent size. It even sings like a wine glass when I move my thumb across the blade. An absolute bargain and I will put it in rotation with my Solingen and other German and French carbon steel 'posh' razors.
