Additional Information
A four-million-year-old black monolith is discovered on the moon, and the government sends a team of scientists on a fact-finding mission while hiding the truth from the public. Later, another team is sent to Jupiter in a ship controlled by the perfect HAL 9000 computer to further investigate the giant object--but something goes terribly wrong. 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY is a masterpiece of filmmaking. Director and coscreenwriter (with Arthur C. Clarke) Stanley Kubrick has created a visual and aural spectacle that stands as one of the greatest achievements ever put on celluloid. The film begins with the "Dawn of Man" segment, about the evolution of apes, and then ventures into the future, taking a look at what the world might be like in the first year of the 21st century. Kubrick's film is a triumph of technological storytelling, a marvel of stunning sets and a brilliant soundtrack with the power to overwhelm and mystify. Long dialogue-free scenes sparkle with indelible images and powerful orchestral music, culminating in an unforgettable, inscrutable tale of birth and rebirth, human evolution and artificial intelligence, the past and the future.

Nostalgic revisit of a once iconic film.

This really needs to be seen on the Big screen but it was nostalgic to see it again, albeit on an average TV. The DVD version was all a tad too dark on my screen and the volume too erratic so had me grasping for the control several times. Apart from the over long and slightly stagey monkey/early human history at the start, I liked the pace and atmosphere of the film. The understanding of it is down to the individual to grapple with and interpret. Some people just don't get it but it is rather out of this world. Best treated as an iconic bit of cinematic history.

  • Similar to my CREATION animation (YT: ZAFOSOPHY)

I love this film, because it coincides with my interpretation of the story/history of humans. CREATION animation (YT: ZAFOSOPHY). In this film, the Creator/God via a Monolith gets the Human Race started, whereas in my interpretation, God GMOs the first humans directly, as confirmed by Mitochondrial Eve, which suggests that all humans had a common mother. The other film I bought was CONTACT. I love that film, because years ago, I used to have very similar visions, when she meets her 'father' on the beach.

  • You need to see this twice!

This was a film I had heard a lot about, an older film about space that intrigued me. I had wanted to watch for a while. However, I feel you need to watch this through more than once as there is a lot to follow. Am pleased I purchased it - aim to watch it again soon. Although perhaps didn't hold the interest I had hoped.

  • 2001: A Space Odyssey - Unsurpassed Classic Sci-Fi.

Beautifully filmed. Fantastic (1960s) special effects, way ahead of it's time. A great story with a thought provoking plot. If you enjoyed watching this, the sequel "2010 Odyssey 2" is worth tracking down, as it answers some of the questions posed by the original.
