An Old Favorite
This is the best Seal CD l have heard yet. It has a bit of " dance " to it but what is charming is it's ethereal qualities. You also can't help but sing along to it in places. What you may not care so much for in spots will grow on you eventually. Having listened to this Seal CD repeatedly over the years since it first came out leaves me questioning whether there ever was any of those spots, if there really were any. Between the strong vocals and the compatible music that backs it up l give it 4 1/2 stars. If you like moody type music you will love his first disc. AaOThis is the best Seal CD l have heard yet. The cutting-edge monster pop/dance hit single Crazy was the sole reason why Seal's 1991 self-titled debut managed to reach platinum-level sales here in the US, but what many didn't know at the time was how truly talented the man was as a music artist overall. Beautifully soulful voice with just the right amount of "rasp" to it, quite capable guitar/bass player (genuine southpaw to boot, but tends to favor right-handed models interestingly enough), and a very thoughtful songwriter with plenty of emotional life experiences to draw upon. Combined with his "uniquely" photogenic looks along with the kind of natural charisma that money just can't buy and it was simply a matter of WHEN Seal would blow up on a global scale (which he finally did on his 2nd album a few years later). As for Seal's ... As for Seal's 1st album, I still find it to be his most musically diverse compared to the rest of his discography. He was just as comfortable with electronic uptempo dancefloor numbers as he was with laid-back acoustic folk/blues ruminations. The "secret weapon" that made such seemingly disparate tastes co-exist successfully on this album was none other than renowned producer (and Seal's longtime musical partner) Trevor Horn, whose signature handiwork is prevalent throughout. The aforementioned Crazy, Deep Water, Killer, Whirlpool, Future Love Paradise, and Violet remain fitting examples of what high-level modern production values can do when handled by a tried-and-true professional like him. It's no wonder that Seal's most enduring works usually have Horn behind the scenes helping to bring it all together in one astoundingly cohesive whole. May that pairing NEVER fade with time!

I wasn't to sure that the album was going to be any good besides the song CRAZY on it, but the album as awhole changed my mind. It's a mix of Electronica, Acoustic Guitar playing an Soul music, and it goes well togther with the way Seal sings. If on the fence. Listen to it first if this genre isn't your type of music, or you're not really a Seal fan. But I think after you do you'll like it.
