    Video quality is horrible.

    The author of the books this program is based on is one of my favorites. I've read all his 'Saxon Stories' multiple times so I've looked forward to this BBC series since I first heard about it. I didn't watch it live or via stream, I wanted to get the video of it to watch when ever I wanted; hopefully repeatedly. So the review for the series is Five stars! Great stuff, Mr. Cornwell should be happy. Just as good as the vids of Sharpe's adventure with the immortal Sean Bean. Sadly the review for the video is negative Five stars. Video quality is horrible. I'd heard it was available as DVD only; no BluRay but I thought 'That's OK, most of my DVDs, even the older ones, look fine when played via my BluRay player'. NOPE! Video quality is horrible. I think I got a bootleg or greymarket ...

    Entertaining History Lesson

    I recently purchased and viewed 'The Last Kingdom, England is Born' and found it very entertaining and informational. i enjoy period pieces that are loosely based on historical fact and this show fills in many gaps in the historical record between the plundering Vikings and early various, unorganized kingdoms located in Britialn. After years of outrageous and very bloody takeovers by the invading Danes (Vikings), the various kingdoms join together and finally provide enough resistance to ward off the invaders. What results is a more unifidied England under one leader, which has lasted up to today. Those that have enjoyed the first four seasons of the A&E show 'The Vikings' will certainly enjoy and learn from this show.

    "The Last Kingdom" is the best heroic series that I have ever seen on film.

    This is my absolutely favorite series ever. Like all great films, they have to start with an engaging and heroic story and excellent adaptive script. "The Last Kingdom" novels by Bernard Cornwell and script adaptation by Stephen Butchard excel on both counts. The dialogue is smooth and engaging and unique to each of the great characters portrayed. The pace is hypnotic. The temptation to binge is irresistible. In my opinion, the series has achieved the almost impossible task of producing a film that is as good as the original books. If you liked the first two series of "The Vikings" you'll love every episode in this series. The gory battles, although they are as good as any on screen, are not portrayed to satisfy vicarious violence quotas of modern filmmaking, but rather to represent the ...

    Like an extra long episode of Vikings, awesome quality! It can be raw also, and the twists and turns of danes culture and methods of handling life and death. Its even filmed in the washed out, muddy cod color. I thhink it holds its own, on its own merit tho, as another step, into 9th century Europe, and how the people fought, lived, and passed on legacy.
