Essentially, the film is an affirmation that good things can happen if one lets them--and that sometimes what seems like a terrible mistake or a crazy idea is a really a blessing. Lane is completely engaging as Frances, second-guessing her speedy purchase, looking for love, and rediscovering herself. Based on the book by Frances Mayes, the film was shot on location in Rome, Florence, Positano, and Cortona in Italy. The breathtaking scenery is sure to have viewers saving their pennies for next year's vacation--or their Tuscan dream house.

    An American in Italy

    Love all things Italian. Have seen this movie several times. Writer/Book reviewer's husband divorced her, she takes friends up on an offer to visit Italy in their place (straight woman on a gay tour bus). Buys a small villa, gets to know the locals, has a fling, her pregnant friend visits, she hosts a wedding at her new villa..and that's all the info you're getting. Crazy about all the main AND supporting characters. Movies hold my interest so much more when there are several story lines as in this one. I hope to tour Italy in about 3 years, and the Tuscany/Amalfi areas were at the top of my list even BEFORE I saw "Under the Tuscan Sun". You will enjoy the movie. Great cast with several VERY handsome men!

    Lovely film

    This is my Mom's favorite movie, I bought it for her birthday. I love the personal growth of the character as well as her life journey. I'm sure lots of us wish we could just start over in any the place of our dreams if money were no object!

    Wonderful, crazy love story

    Diane Lane is perfectly cast for this story. When she's down, her friends come to her to cheer her up. Divorce knocks her totally down and she lands in Tuscanny, where she begins to build her home and a new life. M.S.
