Players can choose from over 17 authentic vehicles from real-life manufacturers like Ford, Peugot, Lancia, Renualt, Toyota, and others. There are four modes of gameplay on 46 different tracks, with the option of day or night racing under clear skies or in ice, rain, snow, or fog. Real-time collision damage is graphically represented and there is an option to allow damage to have an effect on the performance of the vehicle. True to the spirit of the sport, cars even get dirty as they speed over muddy tracks towards the finish line.

Fun racing and good physics but some issues
*Only played some time trials and some single races on 3 different tracks with 2 different cars so this is not a review of the entire game. This game was played on a PS2 (Model No. SCPH-70012) with no PS emulation options on* Gameplay: From little that I have played this game, I was hooked. I'm a big fan of realistic physics and of driving/racing games and this game is fun and good in my book! Game was developed by DICE (same company that made 'Battlefield' games) so that could be why physics are decent. Also, the sliding/drifting and the weight distribution from side to side is nice but not 'Euthusia' quality. Problems I have with the physics engine is that it is too bouncy. Artificial intelligence of opponents seem fine even making mistakes that look like a human might do, but are pretty challenging (too perfect) even at the normal setting. Control: Control with the analog steering with the analog stick on the controller gets a little time to get used too because it is sensitive due to little or no dead zone (area of joystick in center where moving it left or right will not begin turning of steering). Default button layout is fine. Everything works well for the most part. Graphics: Graphics have a lot to be desired, even if played in its time in 2000. It has muddy textures, a low resolution (does not look sharp), moderate use of polygons but keeps racing FPS(Frames Per Second) probably at 30 at most times. This is most likely a port of the game from the PC. It says it has damage but didn't see much of it; either physically or mechanically. After a nasty wipeout, I drove off like nothing had happened. Didn't spend more time with damage so it might be all right (Championship Mode has a repair option after a race for mechanical damage so its there according to the instruction manual). Sound: Sound is decent but nothing really stood out; its all just there. Problem I have with it, and others I believe as well, is that in the Super Specials when you are racing side to side with another car, your engine sound is always much lower than your opponent's even after playing around in the options. So for you manual shifters out there, prepare to be looking at your tachometer rather than using your ear to shift so that could be very annoying. Plus, your opponent's engine sound sometimes sounds off i.e. you would be racing way ahead or behind opponent and its engine sound would randomly (it seems) sound loud as if next to you. Presentation: From what I remember of the menu and intro video, it was all right. Menu might be a little simple and the "Car Setup" is very minimalistic as well. Has a section all about the ROC series drivers if you like that sort of stuff. Option menu has pretty much the standard stuff you'd find. In-game Options on the pause menu has a HUD you can set borders to (which is different). Replay cameras after races seem like an afterthought. Sometimes, you won't be able to see your car for 4 seconds! What if you did a nice pass or wipeout during that time; you'd miss it! And the TV cameras change to "inside car view" instead at certain points. All in all, it's a game I recommend if you can find it cheap and are interested in the 'Race of Champions' series as it's the best simulation I can find of it (in terms of physics at least compared to 'Rally Fusion' on PS2). I got it because of this and just love those Super Specials racing against another car side by side on the same track but different paths.
