A celebration of the life of Tejano princess Selena Quintanilla Perez, the rising star who was gunned down by the president of her own fan club in 1995. Amid the racial tensions and economic hardships of 1980's South Texas, the daughter of a Mexican immigrant (himself a failed doo-wop singer) grows up to be a sensation in the blossoming Tejano scene before meeting a tragic end. Light on insight, this biopic revels rather in Selena's on-stage achievements. Selena's father is credited as an executive producer to the film.

    Great Title...

    Born and raised in Texas as a Mexican American so I basically grew up listening and dancing to Selena, kind of like a role model. Therefore owning the movie reminds me of my childhood and why I used to love listening to Selena so much. Love the depiction Nava gives of the Quintanilla family.

    I loved this movie!

    I have to admit it was through watching this movie that I became aware of tejano queen Selena. I was only 4 years old when Slena was killed and I saw the movie years later and only now bought it on Ebay. The acting is superb - all the actors remind me of Selena and her family. Really excellent casting. The story is very heartfelt and sad, especially the end. This movie is an amazing portrayal of her life and everything she acomplished. Not to mention the magnitude of her death. I highly recommend watching it! Vive Selena!

    this movie shows the rise of selena and the wonderful life she was looking at. she was such a wonderful person ,she didn't let her rise in fame go to her head, she had everything going for her....right up until a trusted friend/fan/employee ended it all. if you don't like sad movie endings i wouldn't watch this. it also has interviews with band & family members, which is just awesome. she had so much to live for.....it's heart wrenching.

    Selena

    I decided to buy this movie because during a hispanic fair held at my daughters school I saw a memorial board for Selena. I tried explaining it to my 7 year old daughter but she didn't understand. So I thought that if maybe she saw the movie she would have a better sense of what a great artist she really was and what a loss to the music world. We both cried like crazy at the end of the movie. Needless to say she loved the movie and now listens to the CD's that I have.
