About this product

Product Information

If you don't have the time or inclination to go to the lake, but you feel like catching a few fish, you may want to try Super Black Bass, a fishing title that lets you compete for the prestigious title of Super Bass Champion. There are five different types of fish that you can catch: blue gill, rainbow trout, catfish, northern pike and, of course, black bass.

Super Black Bass plays by the rules of professional tournament fishing. Hours are from 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and you can't be late to the weigh-in or you will be penalized. There is a five bass maximum allowed in the livewell, and you must avoid No Fishing areas, such as the spawning pool and the dock.

There are four different tournaments in which to compete: Local Amateur Tournament, Amateur Bass Championship, Pro Bass Circuit and Super Bass Championship. Your goal in each tournament is to have the highest accumulative bass weight.

To catch a fish, you must choose lure type and color, set the hook, cast your line (overhand or flip) and wait for a nibble. Then you must reel in the line, which can consist of reeling quickly, swinging the rod strongly, pulling the rod up, thumbing the line, reeling in instantly, cutting the line and more. When casting a line, you view the game from a first person perspective, peering over the shoulder of the onscreen angler. When piloting the boat (in order to find a good fishing spot), retrieving the lure or fighting the fish, the viewpoint switches to overhead.

You have in your tacklebox eight lures from which to choose: pencil bait, popper, swisher, frog, spinnerbait, crankbait, rubber jug and plastic worm. There are two types of fishing points, surface and underwater. Onscreen data provides information such as line length, lure depth, line tension, fish strength, angler strength, weather conditions, water temperature. There is even a fish finder, which is an electronic device that uses sonar to detect fish.

Super Black Bass features four different lakes: Skywater Lake, which is a small, shallow mountain lake; Clear Lake, which is large and manmade; Lake Murphy, an old, shallow lake with murky waters; and Bluestone Lake, a wide, field lake with docks and bridges. A password feature lets you save your progress.

  • Challenging at first but fun the whole time

Super Black Bass may be the most fun I ever had playing a game about fishing. I remember playing this game when I was younger and after buying it now that I am much older, I wondered if the game would hold up to my feelings of nostalgia. I can so with certainty that the game was every bit as fun as I can remember. Now, with that being said, this game is also every bit as challenging as I remember. This is not a game that you can just pick up and expect to excel at instantly. The learning curve can be a little steep but the payoff is great. Even trying to figure out how to play the game is some of the charm of the game. The game does have its drawbacks. Besides the difficulty, the game can be a bit time consuming. The time it takes to complete a stage of the fishing tournament can take a ...

  • My favorite game for SNES!

Ofcourse I like super mario and the other greats, but I feel this game takes the cake! I played it when it first came out over 20 years ago and fell in love! Now as an adult I've purchased the game and rekindled my love for it lol! If you want an SNES fishing game, this is the one! Not to be confused with Super Black Bass, which is nowhere near as good! If you are reading this review, you need to buy this game! You will not be disappointed!

  • Almost as frustrating as real fishing

Super Black Bass is almost as frustrating as actually going fishing. It is so hard to catch fish on this game its crazy. The thing that is really frustrating is you can never find the fish. You can ride around and listen for you fish finder but when you open the screen the fish are never there. Or you can go in some of the cover, like rocks, weeds, reeds, or spillways. Then you see a lot of fish but they are all small. So then you squint your eyes and barley make out a larger fish on laying on the bottom. So you cast you line out. OOOPPPPS. You didn't slow you line down at the end of your cast and you line is tangled up! Try again. You cast again. This time your lure gets hung on a reed. You have to cut your line! So you replace your lure and cast again. This time it lands ...

  • greatest fishing game i have ever played.

iv always loved this game since i was young ,but did not ever buy it .and i would play this games for days and never want to take it back to rental store. but im older and i want so i bought it,cause i still have my 15 year old snes. the gameplay is perfect and easy to get the hang of. there are many different typs of fish to catch, and a handfull of different places to fish. the graphics are what u would expect from snes which is 16 bit. so its not over the top but the gamplay will have you hooked. great game for any super nintendo junkie
