TWO BUILDING PROJECTS AND A SERIES OF FIRES, ACCIDENTS AND ONE EXPLOSION PROVIDE A TIMEFRAME FOR DATING THIS PHOTO BETWEEN AND 1890 AND 1907. ADOLF SUTRO OPENED UP THE HEIGHTS TO THE PUBLIC IN 1885 AND THE FAMOUS CLIFF HOUSE WAS COMPLETLY DESTROYED BY A CHISTMAS FIRE IN 1907. THEREFORE THIS PHTOTO INSCRIBED ON BACK AS A VIEW OF THE SUTRO HEIGHTS FACING CLIFF HOUSE HAS A TERMINUS OF 1907. AS SUTRO HEIGHTS WAS ONLY DEVELOPED FOR PUBLIC USE IN 1885 IT MAKES SENSE THAT AMENITIES AND ROADWAY AND PATHS WOULD HACE TAKEN A FEW YEARS TO CONSTRUCT.THIS PHOTO SHOWS TURRETS BELONGING TO PRIVATE HOUSE AND RAMPARTS WTH PARAPET WHICH FACE CLIFF HOUSE. AND HAS INSCRIPTION IN SAME EARLY HAND AS FIRST INSCRIBED PHOTOGRAPH.”
