  • Wheel--Man Reviews: Cnc Robotics by Geoff Williams

I already have quite an extensive library on the subject of Electronics and Computers. I am currently in the process of designing and building some CNC Machinery that is specific to the craft of making Pool Cues. I have recently decided to return to cuemaking after a 30 year hiatus, and found that there is little in the way of affordable, automated cuemaking machinery available to craftsmen. So I decided to design and build my own. I searched the local bookstores for information that applied to the subject. I read several books and although I did gain considerable knowledge on the subject, I was still not ready to begin. I lacked much of the knowledge needed to implement computer controls of the equipment. One day, while I was looking at available plans for CNC Routers on ebay, I saw the ...

  • Dated but the design is still of merit.

Dated but the design is still of merit. There is no need to build your own driver and controller boards these days with all the stock SBC's. The fact that the design and concepts ad "doable" are still of value.

  • Should be titled MY OUTDATED CNC MACHINE

This is not a "general use" book. In that I mean to say it does not give you a good over view of CNC Robotics as the title suggests. It gives you an overview of what he did to create his CNC machine along with several (60 or so pages) of manufacturer data sheets that are totaly outdated and irrelevant. On the first look and quick perusing I purchased the book. But upon review at home, I returned it to the book store. I did see it in the bargain bin. Good luck....

This book is a teriible book if you are looking to learn how to build a cnc machine. Now if you would like to own a book which is nothing more than a note book of sketchy ideas, this is it. It containes some 60 pages or more of data sheets of which if I really needed the information could have been obtained from the manufacturer. You will learn more by joining the yahoo groups. They discuss what is available and how to use what you have in a do it yourself atmoshphere.
