One of the best for its age.
Getting a bit long in the tooth now, a good second hand Sony TRV16e is well worth the £75 - £100 you will pay for a good one. Excellent image quality, good colour tones, and some unusual facilities for a video camera in this price bracket, together with nice simple controls makes this a good all rounder. Larger than most more recent MiniDV cameras, it has a good solid feel about it, which helps to get nice steady shots, without being too heavy. If you want to film that 20 minute speech by the best man, then get a monopod or tripod though, because by then its weight will be telling a bit. So the facilities? Excellent night shot, and low light video, a facility for interval recording which allows you to do stop motion filming, and a timer recording which takes a short clip of ... It also has a manual focus ring which helps when the autofocus gets confused and focuses on the wrong thing, as they all do. Battery life is not as good as newer cameras, with the basic battery supplied giving around half an hours filming, but larger ones are easily available - mine has one which will give up to 9 hours continuous filming. trouble is it is big, and doubles the weight of the camera! Make sure you have either the original power supply, or a separate charger with it, or you will not be able to recharge the batteries. Sony's system, you could just plug the power supply to the camera and run it, while it re-charged the on camera battery. A small LCD display shows the state discharge (not very accurate!), and on internal charging, how much longer the battery will take before it is full. Once charged it kindly tells you 'Full'! Alltogether, a nice older camera, now going at a very reasonable price, and well worth considering if you can find a good one.

Way back in 2002 I invested in one of these cameras when starting work on a short film. With a Carl Zeiss lens and a good range of functions it pipped the other models I had looked at. Since then, for 9 years, it has been a workhorse - recorded several weddings, two films (countless location and studio shoots), numerous public events... and has been 100% reliable throughout, until it slipped out of the carry-case when the strap got caught underneath. Looking for a replacement, there was no competition - I knew of a camera with a proven track-record, excellent quality picture and that I was already familiar with. The fact that 9 years after I bought my original one they can still fetch almost half their original price is - in my opinion - a testament to their value.Way back in 2002 I invested in one of these cameras when starting work on a short film. What I love about the camcorder is that the colour production it produce is good. My only dislike about the item is that it does not take pictures directly to memory card for easy production.

The Camcorder is all that i wished for, i purchased the camcorder in May and it has been frequently used since then. It is very easy to use , quick to charge batteries and gives superb video . I feel pleased to have bid for and won a super bargain
