I purchased this because I could not find my Blu-ray of the series and did not want to simply replace it with another, so went for the bog standard DVDs. I knew the content and wanted access to it. Nuff said. I also had the same problem with the Hollywood movie of H2G2. I much prefer the BBC series but neither is up to the original Radi 4 series where one's brain paints the picture. Still very much worth having, though.

A classic comedy with great stars and a paranoid robot

Great nostalgia trip. This version is the best one, much better than the Hollywood one that came later. The special effects on this are state of the art for 1980, so looks like you could expect the Tardis to materialise at any second. This adds to the quirkiness of the story and enhances it no end.

Fantastic realisation of the first two books inspired by the HHGG radio series. Funny and often thought-provoking and both genre defying and defining. To my mind the most successful format of HHGG - it was the first I was exposed to by sheer chance in 1981, and I have been a devotee ever since of the saga in its various formats. The late Douglas Adams had a unique storytelling ability that was not flawless, but this TV version will always stand up to myrepeated viewings. The perfect introduction to light-hearted science fiction - a breath of fresh air in a world of created worlds that can get too serious.
Exactly the version I wanted.
