not only does the larger diameter hold more evenly away from the spacer circle in the double glazed glass, but the the integral gasket also mounts that much more securely than the standard body mount. I carefully measured up before replacing the old door flap and worked out I didn't need the adaptor. I was wrong. It did 'fit', but with absolutely no wiggle room and the stress was all on two points of the glass spacer, not spread out in the glass.
