This is a great DVD if you want to know about the Monday Night War that took place from 1995-2001 in the world of pro-wrestling. Despite WWE making this DVD it is a decent chronological coverage of all the events which made the war must see TV. A couple of things that annoyed me with this DVD is that McMahon tries to paint the picture that he was a poor promoter trying to compete with the evil Turner Coporation, when back in the 80s he totally screwed every regional promotion in Northern America when he took the WWF national. Hypocrite much? Also the WWE never actually admits the reason WCW was regarded as the Number 1 promotion during the first part of the war is the fact the it was the better show, mixture of lucha/Jap/american style matches from the opening to mid-card matches then in the Main event the NWO and all the stars (even Hogan was red-hot on Promos and actually made an effort in his matches). Apart from those two points the rest of the DVD is filled with interview clips from all the major wrestlers whose careers changed for the better including Chris Jericho & Big Show (although Show should have had a gym membership tied into his contract. lol). The DVD extras are a bit lame as I would have preferred a compliation of all the wrestlers defecting angles and promos laying into the other promotions, instead of a bunch of matches which although are decent dont really highlight the war itself. Recommend this DVD if you liked Rise & Fall of ECW (Which I think is the best WWE DVD released).Read full review
WCW vs. WWE was one of the most fantasised things in Pro-Wrestling for a LONG time! Now, the DVD by WWE, The Monday Night Wars actually pits Nitro vs. Raw in one, givig=ng you the ins and outs of life behind and in front of the curtain on both Shows. Although the footage is a lot less than excpected, and there is a fair bit of Company talk in the film (which I am very interested in), it gives a very insightful look into the Biggest Rivalry in Wrestling. The extras are good, also. A good few "Best Matches" although I believe Sting should have been in at least one of WCW's "Best Matches". Wrestlers and None-Wrestlers talk frankly about the Products they worked for, like Big Show (known as the Giant in WCW) on why he Jumped from WCW to WWE, along with footage of Jericho, Benoit, Eddie, Malenko and Saturn, who all made the jump. Bischoff talks VERY frankly about his Ideas, Plans, Success and Failure with WCW and some of his comments are very suprising, as it is a WWE DVD. Vince McMahon makes a few appearences on the DVD too, as he talks about the WCW Run at the top of the Ratings charts, and how the WWE ALMOST disappeared from Wrestling. Other appearences by Shawn Michaels and Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair and Rey Mysterio in Footage and Interviews make this DVD a MUST have for all fans of Either Nitro, Raw or Both. It will Open your eyes.Read full review
The Monday Night War DVD is a good overview on the whole history of the WWF / WCW war. The first half of the DVD is about the things WCW were doing to overhaul WWF and shows their quick progression as a company. The second half is more on how WCW was falling and how WWF was taking back the ratings in the war. The whole DVD is full of interviews about the war which I think makes a better WWE DVD. A lot of people have said it's WWF favouratised but I didn't really see that in the DVD at all. Any wrestling fan that wants to see an in depth documentary about the biggest rivalery in Pro Wrestling history simply has to watch this DVD. Also the extras are good and have some more interviews with stars about events on the extras.
I bought this as there aren't many WCW dvds and this had some good matches from nitro. I also wanted an insight onto what went on. Beofre i watched this, i had just read a book about the death of WCW, and, to be fair i think that was very tainted in comparison to the book. This DVD has a big "WWE" touch on it. Vince really burys WCW on this, along with alot of other people, including, sadly, Bichoff. I would recommend buying this is you're a fan of WWE more than WCW. However, if you want to see some classic moments from the Friday night shows, then buy it for that. But if you want an unbiased insight into the world of wrestling, id stay clear.
The Monday Night War finally reveals to you the complete (or as complete as it's going to get) story about the rivalry between the two giants, the WWE and the WCW. Here, you get all of the dirt and the low-down tricks that were implemented by each group. This being a WWE production you would come to expect another piece of WWE propaganda, but in all fairness to WWE they do call it truthfully to a certain extent. Basically the production tries to set the tone of- the WWF are the good guys and WCW are the bad, but with that out of the way and the fact that the WWE don't tell the whole story on few occasions, this DVD is highly entertaining.
An excellent dvd that has a great insight into what the wrestling business was like in the mid-90's. It shows that WWE did not always have things their own way in the face of stiff WCW competition and how they had to rethink their own strategies to move with the changing times. Recommended for those who want to reminisce or for those who were not aware of it first time around.
