Genesis' Swan Song
Genesis's last tour and the first one with Phil Collins in 15 years. No new songs, but a real nice mix of the old and older material. 3 dvd's full of an excellent concert with plenty of extras, deleted scenes and pictures. Over 5 hours! Phil can't hit the high notes like he used to and the topic is talked about in the extras, but he is in his late fifties and still a very good singer. Musically, Phil, Tony Banks, Mike Rutherford still have it but there are times when they cheat a bit on some of the tougher parts. Long time Genesis Live players Chester Thompson and Daryl Stuermer still have their chops. The sound quality is excellent as is the video. There is plenty to see as they have the biggest screens I have ever seen and Mr Collins is an excellent frontman. Bottom line, sound ... Genesis's last tour and the first one with Phil Collins in 15 years. Every Genesis fan should have this DVD
Saw every Genesis Tour from early 70's on but missed this tour that was what sounded like a goodbye tour. It was great to hear songs from the whole catalog performed so well. Even if Ripples and a few other songs were lowered a step to help out Phil on the vocals, the songs remained magical as when I heard them as a teenager. Great venue and an awesome crowd in Rome for this one. A far cry from Kansas City KS Memorial Hall in the early 70's when they struggled to get a thousand to show up for a concert. If you love Genesis a must have for your music DVD collection.
