The design of this tripod, well thought out, has many features including a telescoping neck that comes completely out and can re attach horizontally to the top of the tripod to make unique shots unlike any other tripod I've ever seen! Also can flip neck upside down and mount camera underneath for ground hovering pictures/videos this is very unique as well! This tripod weighs a bit being it can get 6ft tall if not more but does it very sturdy! legs are just a standard aluminum and locking mechanisms are as well but function well. I use this as my primary tripod but not for hiking as it is way too heavy. If they lightened up slightly this would be great and put a bag hook at the bottom of the center column (neck).
This is the sturdiest and most versatile tripod I have ever used. I can manipulate it so that my camera is nearly touching the ground for stellar macro shots and being about 6' tall I don't have to hunch over as I do with most; this one reaches above my head with the camera mounted on its head (purchased separately). It is on the heavy side but this is one of the reasons I bought this one. If you are looking for one to take backpacking or will be carrying for long distances you may want to spend the money on the carbon one. You will not be disappointed with this tripod my recommendation is to purchase this tripod and take your time to find the head to attach to it and ensure that it has the functionality that you need.
I had one and I bought this for my son to take product photography. The tripod is very well built and sturdy. It center column can be mounted horizontal for any perpendicular shooting.

It's a great tripod for heavy cameras and I don't know that there is anything better on the market for what one can be bought for these days. I use it with the heavy duty 3 way 808RC4 head that it came with for big old heavy medium format film cameras and an even heavier 4x5 monorail. It's super sturdy and well engineered. It's way more tripod than is needed for small cameras but in the studio I use it with them, too. I like the tripod I bought 7 years ago so much that I bought another recently in case something happens to the first one.

I purchased this tripod after a lot of research. For the money I do'nt think it could be beaten. I like the solid legs and the flip leg locks. the tilting centre column is a bonus when you want to do any macro work. Centre column assy seems a bit plasticky , but seems to have no problem securing the column. I have already tried my Mamiya RB67 camera on it and it seemed to cope eceptional well even with the centre column at 90 deg. I chose this tripod over the Vanguard alto pro model after reading other reviews.
This is a good compromise between lightweight and heavy duty. As far as tripod go, you want the biggest, heaviest one your spouse is willing to carry for you! This model is my go-to for location work when I don't want to lug around my Manfrotto 058B Triaut tripod.

Sturdy, stable, and versatile. I could have bought the newer model, but I’ve used this one in the past and loved it.

If you have an expensive camera (medium format or large format), this tripod is for you, It is heavy, especially with tilt head, but it is very sturdy and I don't see how wind or an accident move can bring it out off balance. Heavy. Cannot be casually carried - you are warned:-).

Although not super compact it is super stable and super easy to use.

This is a well built tripod that will do everything you need. I am 6'2" and the height is awesome, no more bending over. Extremely stable. Heavy duty really nicely built. Better that most.
