Without a doubt, the best game to come out of the Cyan stable. Great plot, strong storyline and believable characters. Many people think that the puzzles are difficult but the truth is a) they are not and b) there aren't that many to solve. The principle task is to trap Gehn then you can rescue Catherine, the difficulty is in finding Gehn which then opens the doorway to finding Catherine. Installation is fairly easy but having to swap CD's for each island (on the 5 CD version) is a bit of a pain, the DVD version is better at this but in order to play Riven on Vista and Windows 7 with no issues the GOG version (Good Old Games) is better. Most of the issues centre around which version of Quicktime is installed at the time, the GOG version deals with that as well. Riven is a 'point and click' adventure with each click taking you to the next screen, Myst and Riven were groundbreaking in their day and by today's standards Riven is still pretty awesome and can hold its own, it has one of the most visually beautiful environments ever created for the PC and is still breathtaking nearly 20 years later. If you like adventure games you will love Riven and with so many copies available now it isn't difficult to find, added to which the box (big box version) looks really cool on your shelf. Riven has been so successful it is now available for the iPhone and iPad and is currently being recreated in real time by the guys at the starryexpanse. Enjoy Riven, it WILL become your world, it has certainly been mine for the past 17 years.Read full review
