I originally wanted to buy this game because I had a huge nostalgic yearning for it. My childhood friends played it with me when I was 12, and I loved it back then. The character designs were unique, the fighting style was cool, and the multi-player feature was the most engaging of all the games we played together. Even years after moving, I always looked back on the game with fond memories. It wasn't until I was a freshman in college that I purchased the game. I was hoping for a good multi-player game to play with my college buddies, since we didn't have many teamwork-based multi-player games (Super Smash Bros. got boring after a while, sad to say). It was disappointing at first, due to my memories holding a childish, idealized version of the actual game. We started with multi-player, which was initially confusing until we figured out what the object of the stages was. As we played, there were some aspects we were immediately irritated with. The voice-acting was terrible, and for some of the characters it was downright unbearable (We agreed to never play as the fire-user Naja, solely because of her voice). The time it took to get from start to finish was too quick, though it might have been longer if we had set our characters to a weaker level. If we'd had more people playing, the game might have drawn us in more. There were some features that we didn't make use of due to our lack of players, such as the combination spell attack. After a few run-throughs of the multi-player mode, we decided to take turns with the story-mode. My friend played through a few stages of one of the stories, but eventually got annoyed with the terrible script (in one of the cutscenes, the main villain stands ominously at the far end of the stage before a battle, and his only line is, "Be afraid. Be very afraid."). We didn't get too far into the story before putting the game away for another day, so I don't know if it gets any better. The features I enjoyed were the rune customization, in which you can select which elements and spell types you want to use for which fighting techniques. The real-time fighting is slow enough for me to keep up with, as I'm used to turn-based games. It's easy to grasp. All in all, I wouldn't recommend it for an avid gamer, but it's acceptable if there's nothing else or if you don't want to put a lot of effort into your gaming.Read full review
One of the best games out there for the older kid crowd. It still is a fighting game with the required elimination of bad guys by magic, sword and mean strength, but there is virtually no 'gore'. When the bad guys are defeated, they simply blink and then fade away. Perfect for my 10 to 12 year old kids, who want the challenge of the more mature games - but I don't have to worry about the blood and gore of the more realistic games. I truly wish there were more games built with this in mind, because quite frankly... I can do without all the blood myself. It's a great game at a great price and still works on the Wii. Give it a try!
I decided to re-buy Mystic Heroes because it was an engaging game that up to four people can play without being too involved or used to fighting games like this. It is a reasonably long game if you choose to play through with all the characters. As far as the interest-level that this game holds, I feel you can play it for 1 to 2 hours at once without getting bored, then come back and play again after a few days.
I like this game it has very good graphics for an older game console, there's 4 characters to choose from and you're pretty much attacking anything that comes your way. There's always enemies around, but like any game it's enough to be able to handle. I could do pretty good damage to enemies after restoring my health, and when you defeat so much you do get good health. I had lots of fun playing this game and rate it 5 out of 5 stars.
This game is a mix of Dynasty warriors with its own twist though. I enjoy the story, the magic, and the four player co-op option. If you are into a beat em up type of game play, with some friends or family, this game is as good as they get on GameCube.
