Renowned scientist Dr. Hans Zarkov (Frank Shannon) builds an escape rocket and is joined by Yale graduate Flash Gordon (Buster Crabbe) and Dale Arden (Jean Rogers), a beautiful young woman Flash has just met. They land on the fantastic runaway planet, Mongo, only to tangle with its evil ruler, Ming the Merciless (Charles Middleton), who has dastardly plans for our three heroes. Crabbe is the quintessential Flash in this 13-episode saga which was made for a then-expensive $350,000, setting a new standard for movie serials of the 1930s.
