Additional Information
This controversial British cult classic, considered by its producer upon completion to be one of the worst films ever made, has been little seen since its brief theatrical release even though it is now regarded as a classic of British cinema. Edward Woodward stars as Sergeant Howie, a police officer sent to Summerisle, a secluded island off the coast of Scotland, to investigate the disappearance of a young girl named Rowan. When he arrives there, he finds a very tight knit community, one mistrustful and hostile to outsiders--none of them seem willing to even acknowledge the disappearance of young Rowan. Soon Howie begins to realise that the town belongs to some sort of pagan cult, one given to unbridled sexuality and possibly human sacrifice. Seeking an audience with the oddly civilised Lord Summerisle (Christopher Lee), Howie hopes to get to the bottom of the mystery, but instead finds something more shocking than he could have ever imagined.<BR>A true cult classic that paints a disturbing portrait of an almost prehistoric, multi-deity worshipping society given to Bacchanalian excess and bizarre rituals, THE WICKER MAN is a truly unsettling experience. Erotic and mysterious, the film evokes the primal urges that underlay modern society through its unforgettable imagery and story.

had me on the edge of my seat especially the ending.

Good film. Watched it years ago. Watched it again last week. Forgotten how eerie it was. Good actors playing the roles. Frightening for kids under 15 to watch. Good acting. Will watch it again in a couple of months time. Batter than the Nicholas Cage version but that's usually the case.

  • Most critical review

Great film, but with little issues

This film is of course 'a classic', but I have issues with the project. a) NO SUBTITLES. - Unbelieavable. A director's cut double DVD that doesn't features Subs. couldn't quite believe it. b) Parts of the film are in very poor quality, they do explain why this happens, but still, it's a pain. In the end I'm quite pleased with the film itself.

  • Enigmatic

What people will do to get a decent apple! The Wicker Man portrays a pagan sect living outside what most folk would consider normality, needing a good harvest after a poor one in the previous year. The film is gripping in that it mixes quaintness with quite explicit scenes. It was enjoyable from start to finish with excellent acting particularly from Edward Woodward and Christopher Lee.

  • A great actor.

Saw this years ago then saw a Christopher Lee interview & was reminded of it. Was as good as I remembered.

  • In the TOP 10 ALL TIME BRITISH FILMS.

This is the original WICKER MAN. Not the terrible Amerian copy. I is rearded as being in the top 10 all-time British fims. It's called a horror film, but I wouldn't call it that. It is more about the pockets of Pagans that still exist een o ths day. One thing to note aout this film is that both Christoper Lee and Britt Eckland obtained their roles n he next James Bond Fil a year later - The Man with The Golden Gn' in 1974. Highly recomended.
