Decent colour sets of Rome, though not the sumptuary of the great epics. This is quite a religious film. Simmons provides almost as much class as Hepburn, and Taylor is magnetically watchable as the spoilt patrician soldier on a journey of religious awakening. Mature is a muscular Greek Christian and Jay Robinson is entertaining as the evil, petulant, young Emperor Caligula. Features a number of very beautiful women in cameos. "The Robe". Excellent movie. Poor quality DVD
Having watched the movie in HD on UK TV at Easter I had hoped that my DVD player would upscale the playback quality of this DVD, but it couldn't. I had wanted to purchase a BlueRay disc but none that I found will play on UK BlueRay players. The graininess of the recording is inescapably annoying,, distracting, and very disappointing. I gave 3 stars for speed of delivery. I would give the film itself 5 stars for excellent story, casting, acting,, and screenplay.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New
