I RECEIVED THE DVD's AND IT WAS AS STATED IN THE DESCRIPTION. IT WAS OF HIGH QUALITY, GOOD CONDITION. THEY KEPT THE COST OF SHIPPING DOWN AND MADE SURE THE PACKING WAS ENOUGH TO KEEP THE ITENS SAFE AND SECURE. THE VALUE WAS GREAT. THE APPEARANCE WAS AS GOOD AS IT WAS DISCRIPTION - VERY NICE WOULD KEEP IT FROM GETTING DAMAGED. I WILL SHOP WITH THIS SELLER AGAIN. A+++++++++++

  • Very much middling in terms of value, entertaining, and engaging, but not throw out the window awful.

Musicals of the 1930's require a lot of suspension of disbelief, and ROSALIE requires a boatload. Nelson Eddy in his mid 30's is supposed to be a West Point cadet who woos Eleanor Powell, a secret princess of some Balkan country studying at a local girls college. Ray Bolger plays Eddy's gauche pal. Somehow they get the means to fly to Europe to continue the romance. Frank Morgan plays the befuddled king of this country on the verge of revolution while he fiddles with his ventriloquist dummy. Edna Mae Oliver is wasted in a thankless role as the queen. Powell dances, twirling about in a flouncy outfit that shows off her legs but accents her hips; and Eddy, stolid as ever, sings. His rendition of Cole Porter's "In the Still of the Night" is pretty good in a straightforward way, though ...

  • A sows ear not a silk purse.

Rosalie is a big production that doesn't work. It stars Eleanore Powell and Nelson Eddy, who are good at what they do but the script and choreography are just bad. The studio invested tons of money on costumes and a sea of extras but it is all flat and dull. Even the comic relief characters played by Frank Morgan and Ray Booger have nothing amusing to say. Skip this one.
