      Great film and brilliant on Blu-Ray

      Great film that is as good now as when it was made. Really good version on Blu-Ray with super picture quality, especially when you consider most of it is in a dark environment. Sound is good. Much better than my murky old VHS-go on treat yourself, it’s a great movie even if you’ve seen it before and Connery is brilliant as ever.

      SEAN CONNERY AS AN INVESTIGATORY MONK IN AN ITALIAN MONASTERY?

      It might be difficult to imagine the late Sean Connery as an investigator called to an italian monastery with his apprentice played by a young Christian Slater to investigate a series of murders but actually as usual he plays the part well as a sort of Sherlock Holmes character.Christian Slater most of the time seems to stand around looking bemused at the proceedings but maybe this was one of his first appearances in a movie anyway.The monks that inhabit the monastery are a strange motley crew with unusual habits and look out for Ron Perlman as a really weird character who speaks in several different languages at the same time and is a wee bit cuckoo.I have always liked this movie(which has been around quite a long time)I remember it from the days of VHS but the bluray transfer as usual is ...

      Creepy gothic crime thriller at its best!

      Really good, loved this film for decades. It’s my Christmas film in which the young Christian slater and steady hand of Sean Connery make for a highly entertaining if not creepy gothic medieval crime thriller. Think Cadfael crossed with reservoir dogs.
