Synopsis
Every guitarist dreams of owning a handmade instrument, but for most, the cost is likely to be prohibitive. The alternative - building your own fine guitar - is not as difficult as you might imagine, given some skill, patience, and the expert guidance of a master luthier. Every step of construction is fully covered, from choice, selection, and preparation of woods, to consideration of size, bracing, and tonal qualities. Each step of the building sequence is clearly photographed in color, with variations to the standard design shown to enable you to personalize your instrument as you make it. Briston, England-based Jonathan Kinkead has been building guitars for nearly 30 years. His craft is born out of experience and intuition rather than a strict following of technical detail. The resulting beauty of form and distinctive tone have earned him his reputation as one of the world's most respected independent luthiers., (Book). A smooth and professional transaction throughout. The item was exactly as described, clearly listed, and fairly priced. Communication from the seller was prompt, polite, and helpful, with dispatch confirmed quickly. The parcel was securely packaged and arrived in excellent condition, ahead of the expected delivery date. Care was taken at every stage of the process. I would be happy to buy from this seller again—many thanks for a reliable and well-handled sale.

Item was exactly as described and packaged to protect it. Seller’s pricing was spot on and when I received it, it was in good condition. Seller actually messaged me when they shipped it (I really appreciated that). Overall I’m happy doing business with them!

The Item itself I rate five stars. The seller, however, I stop at four stars. The seller met two out of three categories I look for when judging my purchasing experience: how well it was packaged, how quickly it was shipped, and how properly it was described; this seller provided prompt shipping and an accurate description, but failed when it came to packaging. The item arrived in a plastic bag without any reinforcement or protection whatsoever and suffered dinged corners on multiple fronts.

  • Not a beginner kit

This was a great value to me as a seasoned builder, I was able to create a very nice acoustic/electric bass guitar. Most of the hardware, like the tuners, are cheap and not worth the effort to install. I replaced the preamp with one that only required two small holes for the volume and tone, I used an end jack so I wouldn't have to add another hole. I pegged the bridge to prevent it from being pulled up by the string tension, and used up graded tuners and strings. I ended up with an instrument on par with ones costing much more. I would not recommend this kit to a beginner, there are too many things that have to taken care of before the kit was even started.

  • great book

a good overview for beginning luthiers. Los of detail, so you could almost make your own guitar. Clears up a lot of methods of building. Definitly recommend

  • Great book

Just received this book today. So far I have looked at a few photos & read a few pages. This is exactly what I was looking for! Tells you what tools you need, plans are located in an envelope in the back, step-by-step instructions, etc.
