This does not magically transform an old recording into an mp3 that you might buy on iTunes of a new artist. If you're prepared for it to sound like what it is - a cassette recording - then you'll love this unit. My brother had some live performances of his band on a cassette. Nearly twenty years old, his music has new life, and sounds a bit retro with the ambient hiss of cassette mixed with time. I held back on buying this because of some of the reviews, but now I realize the people posting the bad reviews were expecting the Tape2Go to magically fix problems inherent to cassette recordings. If you have realistic expectations, you will be glad you invested in this sweet little product.

This Tape 2 Go converter's price was right, and was is easy to use. It comes with software, which goes with this unit (the software can also be used with a separate turntable, if you have one). Maybe the inexpensive cost should have tipped me off that it was too good to be true. When I used it, the sound was really bad - a continual muffled "bumping" sound throughout the audio. I tried several tapes, with the same result, even after adjusting the volume levels, etc. Oh well - back to the drawing board!

My unit started to hum and a chop like a helicopter became a problem. It seemed to come from the motor and was audible on the playback. This could have been averted if the easy to use software had included some kind of equalizer. Adjusting input levels corrected some of the problem, but an EQ is very much desired. I think there are higher priced models that might address this issue. Otherwise, it works very well allowing for easy transfer of cassettes to digital format. A great deal for the money and the customer service was very professional and helpful.

I purchased this item to convert cassette tape content to mp3 files using my MacBook Pro's Catalina OS Version 10.15.6. 64-bit capable software is required for this purpose. The software provided by Ion via download from their website is outdated 32-bit and incompatible with all Apple updated operating systems. A chat with Ion's support team confirmed this deficiency and advised me that their company is working on the problem. No value for me! Item returned.

Bought this to convert an audio cassette I recorded in Pleiku, Vietnam in 1971. I was on top of a small wooden tower where I called in artillery and directed helicopter gunships, etc. in a small Montagnard RF compound, it was part of a 5-day battle against a much larger force. I 'met' several people on a MACV website, who very much wanted copies of their battle as well. The converter worked great, in spite of the poor old cassette tape construction, etc. As usual, had to figure a few things out with the computer, but it all worked find. This conversion has been a plan of 46 years, finally coming to fruition. Thanks, ION. BTW, as usual, we kicked the NVA's butt.
