These Barr and Stroud binoculars have the phase coating and full multicoating on the prisms and lenses which are a must for a good pair of binoculars. They are well made and come with quality accessories. I put these alongside some more expensive Nikon Prostaff 8x42 binoculars and they were of equal quality. However, they have some minor quirks. The focussing wheel turns a lot which means to get precise focus can take a little time. On the other hand they can be focussed very precisely! The eyecups twist up and down well, but the movement is quite firm. Again, on the other hand, they stay put - which is not always true of the Nikons for example. For wildlife and general observation they are excellent, and the 10x50 size offers a nice bright image in dim light, especially compared to a 10x42 pair. The image is crisp and you can see plenty of detail. They are quite flare resistant and the colours are natural, if maybe slightly warm. Overall I am very satisfied with these and don't see any need to pay more for a pair with a better spec on paper.Read full review

Much better than I expected for their price, they compare favourably with binoculars two to three times the price! I would recommend these binoculars to anyone who wants quality on a budget.
