Looks the part, but, flimsy construction of scope and tripod, pointer difficult to use, EQ mount function difficult to understand at first. Complex setting up procedure unsuitable for beginners IMO. Sticky focus knobs. Images poor quality. Hi mag x100 almost impossible to use because of poor tripod/shaking. If you are looking for a beginners stargazing system, try astronomical binoculars on a stout camera tripod preferrably with a pointer. You can buy a decent (Celestion) system for half this price. The telescope is not for beginners, but as a VERY experienced telescope user I can tell you that this scope has good enough optics, a reasonably sturdy mount (Except in windy conditions) and generally is up to the job. I have used several of these capable telescopes and found no issues. The eyepieces supplied are good enough to show the detail that a beginner can see. The set up of the monting is straightforward, but technical. If you can follow simple instructions there should be no problems.
