you can live many repair problems with it.
Small and nice camera. And it is very useful. But your camera will need, probably very often service and repair. Also it's spare parts are very expensive.

Nikon S4 Swivel Lens 6 Mp
Two big pluses about this camera are the 10X optical zoom and the swivel feature of the lens. The Swivel feature allows multiple shooting positions not possible with a standard camera, of particular use is being able to hold the camera above a crowd or into a small opening and still see the viewscreen to aim. This also comes into its own when holding the camera against a the ground or a firm object to reduce camera shake or to aim for a self timer shot. A third (smaller) plus is that it takes regular size batteries (AA) so no extra expense of a second special rechargable and if caught short on power AAs can be bought almost everywhere and the rechargables are inexpensive. Asides this the camera has all the usual features of most modern cameras, menus for different modes and functions ... Two big pluses about this camera are the 10X optical zoom and the swivel feature of the lens. On a down side the data cable is non-standard (or to be precise is a far less popular standard - not your usual mini USB) so lose the supplied one at your peril and be very careful if buying a replacement. The mini joystick can be a bit fiddly and the time out on the selection can be annoyingly short, as can having to reselect the selftimer for each shot if taking a number in a row. Whilst there is no manual option on this camera once familar with the use of scene set ups and the half press exposure/focus lock it meant that I was able to still have enough creative control without being cursed with a camera that thought it new better than me! There is a limited number of digital cameras on the market these days that have the ability to alter the alignment of the Lens to the viewscreen, this is limited to one axis, but I found this limitation bearable. If you have a relative who enjoyed using a box brownie or a Mamiya or similar and looked down into the viewer this will a natural camera to use. A great and compact replacement for my previous 990. Two or three years bouncing around in my toolkit and being abused the camera is still going well despite having lost the lens cap - so I can say it is robust and reliable!

A Little Cracker - Nikon Coolpix S4.
I have been a Nikon user for nearly 30 years and have yet to be disappointed by one of their cameras. The S4 follows pocketable Coolpix models 2100, 3100 and 5600 all good in their own way but with the 3X optical zoom which, to be fair is a limiting factor when on the move. My Coolpix 5700 prosumer model has a more usable 8X zoom but is not pocket friendly and so, while it travels with me most of the time only tends to come out when I know something is happening or likely to happen. The S4 has overtaken all my previous Coolpix cameras. It has a 10X optical zoom and near instant start up capability which is an improvement on all the preceeding models mentioned. Picture quality is up to normal Nikon standards and the 6 megapixels available are more than adequate for prints up to A4. I have ... If I have a minor gripe then it is that the only viewing platform is via the, admittedly large, TFT screen rather than having an optical viewfinder. The design of the camera precludes that possibility and in all fairness has yet to prove a problem. I would recommend Nikon cameras to anyone who was in two minds about which digital camera to buy. They are not always the most technically advanced but they incorporate the technology that they use particularly well. The sad thing about the Nikon Coolpix S4 is that is now a discontinued model but there are some still about at very competitive prices and would heartily recommend keen amateurs and professionals who want a pocket camera to snap up remaining stocks while they can. This is truly a little cracker.

Nikon Coolpix S4 6.4MP Digital Camera
Excellent little camera, easy to use, the 6.4MP is more than enough for clear prints and pc viewing. Love the swivel mounted lens, so handy for taking self portraits or pics of you with friends, who needs to spend hundreds of pounds on a camera with a tiny screen on the front, when you can get one of these for just a few quid and swivel it round and look at the full size screen. The menus are easy to follow and understand, many different scene selections, or just stick it on auto and let it do everything for you, good video quality as well, and the 10x optical zoom is very quick to focus. Great little camera, would recommend it to anyone.Excellent little camera, easy to use, the 6.4MP is more than enough for clear prints and pc viewing.
