excellent tool, does the job of extracting cranks brilliantly; no good at making tea, though

The item is as described, but when you pay a cheap price, you get cheap quality. I was not able to remove my crank with this tool and ended up taking it to a bike repair shop. The tool actually ripped some of the thread from my crank.

    Works well

The tool seems to be well made and solid. It is made from just two components which screw together. This made the job of removing the crankset on my bike much easier. However, the central pushrod is slightly too narrow and it was only marginally larger than the threaded hole for the retaining bolt in the centre of the taper. The pushrod is supposed to push through the middle of the tool to force the outside part (attached to the crank) off the taper. The problem with it being narrow is that it starts to dig into the threaded hole when the applied force increases. To stop the threaded hole getting ruined I cut out a small piece of flat metal to put between the rod and the hole. This worked very well. The tool did come with an adapter to make the end of the rod wider but this was then ...

  • Most critical review

Its OK - but protect the threaded hole!

Unfortunatly, I never read the most recent review, that suggested protecting the internal thread on the crank. The tool does come with an extra bit (not shown) to protect larger cranks - but I used it without any protection and now find that the thread on both sides is damaged and no longer accepts the bolt on reassembly. I'm now having to buy a tap to see if I can rescue it. Having said that, it did pull the pedal off - which was well jammed on

  • Crank tool uses

I recently moved from london to north devon and downsized considerably on garage space which meant my cycle tools were packed up tight. I saw this tool and thought it was worth a go even if it only managed a couple of jobs before giving up ! Surprisingly good quality and quick delivery has changed my mind on makes as i only use var or similar quality normally. Only thing that let it down was the odd spanner size to use it. I think it was 18mm from memory which can be missing on some spanner sets so it seemed a confusing size to use ?

  • good price and works

worked and is cheap. I think it was used before though as wasnt in wrapper and thread was a tiny bit worn. That said it worked and price incl postage is hard to beat. There are more expensive one out there with handles but this with an adjustable works fine. Turn the spanner the other way to the pedal crank and hey presto!

  • Better quality than it looks/expected,and worth having.

Does what it's suposed to, this is easy to use and fits snugly. This is for square tapered cranks and other type as well (mine was square tapered) it screws on after taking off the allen bolt undoing it then putting the crankpuller on turning clockwise until it stops up against the crank arm, you then use a wrench to tighten up the centre part that pushes against the hole in the centre (square bit) and turn it to the right until it pulls the crankset away from the bottom bracket, this is easy to do with patience, just make sure not to cross thread at the start when lining up at the thread. The quality is very good and is worth having and saves you labour costs than getting it done at a bike shop. It's easy to use at home and should be part of your bike tools. All in all a very useful ...
