David Cronenberg's career-defining horror masterpiece stars James Woods as a TV programmer who comes across an hyperviolent, illegal cable show causing him hallucinatory fantasies involving a seductive radio-show host (Deborah Harry, in one of her first roles). This Criterion two-disc set contains two commentaries, featurettes, and more. Worth while to see, unless you're brain-off.
This movie is definitely for the cerebrial minded person. It's a blend of a science fiction and government mind control over the masses. The ending political statement is easy enough. This is the kind of movie that often referred to as a cult classic. It's NOT one of the all-to-common hollywood stamaped-and-processed cookie-cutter movies where the main character is met with a challenge, then gets thru it safe and sound, with the bad guys getting killed and the good guy getting the pretty girl. It is a real drama, with a slightly omnious overtone. You aren't sure about what's cut and dry. The movie isn't meant to be that way. Great sci fi/horror flick i just love the 80's stuff like this!!!!!
Great movie!! classic 80's Sci-fi/Horror...James Woods ..a sleazy televion station exec...looking to find the origins of a sadistic/creepy television signal broadcast, in hopes to secure it, and sign it to his company...but in the mean time...its kinda trippy and out there.. also starring "Debbie Harry" from the band "Blondie"..p.s. shes absolutely gorgeous in this!!! yumm yumm!! but overall its a pretty good movie for its time!!
