About this product

Product Information

Funnyman "Weird" Al Yankovic stars in this comedy as George Newman, a man who takes over a low-rent TV station won by his uncle in a poker game. Newman's unconventional methods for boosting ratings include giving the station's janitor his own children's program -- with spectacularly successful results. Complications ensue when the unscrupulous head of a rival network tries to drive Newman off the air, but there's still plenty of time out for fantasy music video segments and TV bits which showcase Yankovic's talents as a parodist.

I really appreciated the communication with the seller proactively letting me know when the item would arrive. It was shipped very quickly and also arrived very quickly as well. The Lego minifigure is exactly as described/shown in the listing. It was sent with care along with the original packaging. Overall an excellent experience with this shop. I’ll likely purchase from them again in future. Highly recommend!

Items as described. Quickly shipped. Very securely packaged. A much appreciated touch was the square of bubble wrap inside the DVD cases to prevent movement. Communication was thorough. Overall, an excellent transaction! Highly recommend! Would definitely purchase from again.

    "UHF" has Historical Significance.

Weird Al is not so weird... to me. He's a genius and he's doing what he loves most, which makes all his fans happy. When he started out doing music-parody, he made a smash with a rendition of "My Bologna" that was based on a hit song with a "very similar title". Soon he was doing music-parody videos that no one could resist, and when he made a motion picture ( UHF ) the crowds went wild. It is still one of the most popular comedies ever made, and not just with Yankovic's own generation. It's just a little difficult for younger kids today to relate to the idea of small TV broadcasting stations like UHF stations I knew of when I was a kid way back when. So, I guess you could even say that "UHF" is not only a great comedy... it's a historical documentary!

  • You get to drink from...THE FIRE HOSE!!!

Weird Al is at his best. This was such a great movie, but I did have one complaint...ok...two complaints. 1) It's not still in print. 2) "Al" needs to make more! George Newman (Weird Al) had a fertile imagination, but no way to constructively express it. His father wins U-62 (a failing UHF television station) and makes George the manager....needless to say hilarity ensues as U-62 (previously "unknown")becomes the #1 television station in town. I had this on VHS...but VHS wears out and does not have the "extras!" Other good viewing is "The COMPLEAT AL"...which is Al's life story. It is not available on DVD. Mister Yankovic...make...more...movies. And please don't put ends to printing time. OOP is NOT kool!

  • UHF--WEIRD AL

This is typical Al and his mind blowing jumps from reality to "Out there". Only Al would drop a wiener dog in a bowl of punch at a dinner party!! He always has a sight gag in there somewhere so don't go away or you will miss something. Ironic twist in the end when Channel 62 is saved by the villian's own arrogance to a man in need by giving him a penny. Fran Dressher (The Nanny)is good as the female station do-it-all. Her nasially speach is just annoying enough to ad to the bounce the film showed. Billy Barty plays a savy camera man and the whole cast shows what hard work can do. I recommend this with a bowl of popcorn and your comfortable clothes wrapped up on a couch with.. Wait. Just enjoy the movie. It's funnnny. Dreamers unite!!

  • Awesome college movie right up their with Monty Python's Holy Grail

UHF is a 1989 film about a hapless dreamer who suddenly becomes in charge of a small town UHF television station and turns it into the most popular channel. UHF is parodist "Weird Al" Yankovic entry into movies. He grew up on oldtimey novelty performers introduced to him by bearded radio DJ "Dr. Demento". "Dr. Demento" later aired many of his earliest works both parody and original satire. If you like this kind of satire, his UHF movie is a scream, keeping the best 25% of the actual footage. Includes jokes like station electrician/engineer's home brew show; "Hello, my name is Philo and welcome to...[unfolds a piece of paper with the title written on it; recites title with echo effect] Secrets Of The Universe. [folds paper back up] Today we are going to learn how to make plutonium from ...

  • UHF-U Have Fun

I bought this product because I thought it might have Weird Al's old videos included in it. It contains little music video content, however, the movie has some very funny skits and parodies in it! Some parts are gross and not politically correct, but it has a happy, predictable ending. If you're looking for a few laughs based on the notion that anyone can run a TV station and develop new programs, then this movie is for you!
